Timo Werner has taken the peculiar step of unfollowing Red Bull Leipzig on Twitter less than 48 hours after the Bundesliga club mocked Liverpool’s defeat to Watford.

The Germany international has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield and he’s made no secret of his admiration for Jurgen Klopp, who he recently described as the ‘best coach in the world’.

Liverpool are known to be keen on signing the forward and Leipzig did little to dampen the speculation on Saturday when they replied to the Reds’ tweet after their unbeaten run came to an end at Vicarage Road with a gif of Werner looking at his phone in disbelief.

Werner is set to leave the club this summer and his recent activity on Twitter appears to have suggested his intentions.

The German, who only followed four accounts, unfollowed Leipzig following their tweet and his current follow count is at zero.

Werner did follow four accounts…

Including his club, Red Bull Leipzig…

But he’s since unfollowed…

Whether this can be interpreted as any annoyance from Werner that his club mocked Liverpool remains to be seen but Klopp recently admitted it was flattering to hear the striker’s comments about him.

Speaking before the defeat to Watford, Klopp said: ‘I prefer that when players speak about us they are positive, rather than saying “that’s the last club I would ever go to

‘From that point of view it’s obviously nice, but that’s all, there’s nothing else to say about it.’
