Mohamed Salah is yet to make any decision about his involvement in this summer’s Olympics, insisted the player’s agent.

Egypt’s Under 23 coach Shawky Gharib confirmed on Wednesday that Salah would be named in their squad, as one of three senior players they are permitted to take to the tournament.

Any participation in the Games in Tokyo would likely force Salah to miss the start of the new season with Liverpool.

The football tournament Olympics runs until from 22 July to 8 August, with the 2020/21 Premier League campaign set to kick off on 8 August.

Salah would certainly miss Liverpool’s pre-season, but his agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, addressed comments from Gharib, saying: ‘No decision has been made yet.’

Jurgen Klopp would prefer Salah did not take part in the Olympics, especially considering the African Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place in January and February of 2021.

Gharib revealed Salah’s inclusion was a no-brainer for his side.

He said: ‘Out of the three senior players we’ll call-up, Salah is the only one we’re settled on so far because he’s simply one of the top three players in the world.

‘I haven’t talked to Salah at all about him joining the U-23 squad for the Olympics, but in all honesty, his participation in the Olympics will need a little effort from him as well.’

Klopp was asked earlier this season about Salah potentially spending pre-season with his international side

‘No decision made yet. What I have to say to him I will say it to Mo [Salah], so that is all,’ he said.

‘Neither side has made a decision. I wish we could have whole squad together for pre-season but that is not possible for different reasons.

‘Olympics is a wonderful thing but it would not be too cool. No decision made yet.’

Salah and his team-mates were given time off during the winter break before they resume their efforts to win their first Premier League title against Norwich this weekend.
