Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Fulham wonderkid Harvey Elliott and plan to integrate the teenager immediately into their first-team squad.

Elliott, who is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in English football, only turned 16 at the start of April but was handed his Premier League debut the following month.

The England U17 international came on as a substitute during Fulham’s 1-0 defeat to Wolves in May and in doing so became the youngest ever Premier League player at the age of 16 years and 30 days.

Elliott also featured as a late substitute during Fulham’s 4-0 defeat to Newcastle United on the final day of the season but is set to leave the Cottagers in order to join Liverpool with a deal potentially set to take place this week.

Liverpool have beaten competition from PSG and Real Madrid to sign Elliott after his youth contract with Fulham expired at the end of June. Although Liverpool will not have to pay a fee for Elliott, Fulham will be due compensation.

It had been expected that due to his age, Elliott would link up with Liverpool’s U18 academy side, however, Liverpool Echo report that he will instead train with Jurgen Klopp’s senior squad once the deal has been completed.

The reasoning behind it is that Liverpool feel that Elliott would benefit more from training alongside established stars like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane than his peers in the club’s youth setup.

Should Elliott, as expected, complete his move to Anfield this week, he will become the club’s second summer signing following the capture of 17-year-old Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg.
