Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp identifies Daniel Sturridge replacement as surprise move eyed

Liverpool will likely be in for a quiet transfer window having done most of their key business in 2018, spending over £200million.

But there are expected outgoings in the coming months, including the likes of Sturridge and full-backs Alberto Moreno and Nathaniel Clyne.

And with Sturridge seemingly on his way out of the door, Liverpool have taken their first steps in trying to replace him.

Sport1 in Germany are claiming that Kruse is being thought about as the English striker’s replacement this summer.

Kruse enjoyed a good season with Werder Bremen this season, scoring 11 goals and registering nine assists in the Bundesliga.

And although Kruse can provide experience to a youthful Liverpool side, fans will be worried about the fact that Kruse is now past his prime at 31 years old.

Last week, BBC sport reporter David Ornstein spoke of Liverpool’s transfer dealings, noting that their business, if any, will be minimal. He also stated that they would be looking for a versatile attacker to replace Sturridge.

“The most settled team of the lot, they’re looking at continuity,” he said.

“It will be a very settled summer for them, consolidation seems to be the name of the game, they’ve stockpiled well.

“They’ve essentially done their big shop and they don’t see the need to daily shops and to improve their squad they feel it would take astronomical spending.

“They’re looking at one or a maximum of two signings unless there’s an injury or a player that wants out like Philippe Coutinho.

“At left-back they need cover, that’s they key area, with Alberto Moreno and Nathaniel Clyne leaving.

“They want a young player who can grow into the role or someone versatile.

“They also want a possible attacker to replace Daniel Sturridge if he leaves but once again it won’t be a No 9. It will be a versatile attacker.”

Liverpool are preparing for their final game of the season, the Champions League final, by holding a training camp in Marbella.

The Reds will take on Tottenham at the Wanda Metropolitano on June 1 for the chance to lift their sixth European Cup.
