Liverpool named as ideal transfer destination for Spain wonderkid

Liverpool have been named as the ‘ideal destination’ for promising Real Sociedad star Mikel Oyarzabal with the Spain international set to leave the Spanish side in the coming weeks.

The 22-year-old has already been capped by his country and was part of the Spain side that triumphed at the European Under-21 Championships in Italy.

The attacker is normally at home on the wing, but showed his versatility in the closing stages of that tournament by filling in as a centre-forward.

Oyarzabal scored twice and also nabbed an assist in the final against Germany and that form has caught the attention of some of Europe’s top clubs.

Speculation is rife that the 22-year-old will depart Sociedad in the current transfer window, leading to one of the Spanish side’s former players to suggest a possible destination for the youngster.

Alberto Lopez played for the Anoeta outfit from 1993 to 2006 and believes his fellow countryman would be well served by completing a summer switch to Anfield.

Lopez told Marca : “I really rate him. I don’t think he has a lot of time left at Real Sociedad. He has so much talent and I think he could play in a great team like Chelsea and Liverpool.”

Oyarzabal is a product of Sociedad’s youth academy, progressing all the way up the ranks before making his first-team debut in October 2015, replacing ex-Arsenal attacker Carlos Vela.

Still aged just 19, the winger was called into the Spain squad for a friendly with Bosnia & Herzegovina in May 2016 and later went on to make his debut for his country.

In the early stages of his career, Oyarzabal combined his playing commitments with studying for a degree in business.

And after being linked with a move away this summer, it seems Liverpool could do some good business by signing the 22-year-old.
