Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren wanted by Roma in £19m transfer after missing out on Toby Alderweireld

LIVERPOOL centre-back Dejan Lovren is now a top transfer target for Roma.

Having so far unsuccessfully chased Toby Alderweireld for a move from Tottenham Hotspur, the Italian club are considering the names further down their wishlist.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lovren is available for around £19million.

Roma hope to knock that figure down thanks to the perceived strong relationship between the two clubs – whose owners Tom Werner and James Pallotta are good personal friends.

So far, this has manifested itself in helping Liverpool bring Mohamed Salah and Alisson Becker over from the Stadio Olimpico.

Lovren lost his way under Jurgen Klopp last season, falling behind Joel Matip in the pecking order and struggling to get back into the side after playing in the 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in January.

What’s more, the Croat is now 30 and suffered a number of injury problems during the campaign.

But he isn’t the only man on Roma’s shortlist, this latest report naming Monaco duo Kamil Glik and Jemerson as targets – and the Lupi aren’t totally giving up on Alderweireld.

Spurs are no longer bound by the Belgian’s £25m release clause but do risk him leaving for free when his contract expires in 12 months.

Manchester United have long been linked with Alderweireld, 30, as well.

It is no surprise, therefore, that Roma are seeking a cheaper option to accompany big money signings Leonardo Spinazzola, Pau Lopez, Bryan Cristante and Amadou Diaware in the Italian capital.

Gazzetta also claim that goalkeeper Robin Olsen is wanted by Premier League clubs and Benfica as the Swedish international is surplus to requirements in Rome.
