Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp opens up on possible transfers and drops new signing hint

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is aware of his limited options at left-back after the club released Alberto Moreno after his contract expired with the club.

Following the departure of the Spaniard, Klopp just has Andrew Robertson as the only specialist left-back in his current first-team squad.

The German has used the versatile James Milner as an option when required to fill-in temporarily and has also given opportunities to youngster’s Yasser Larouci and Adam Lewis in the Red’s first two pre-season games this summer.

However, speaking after Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Bradford, Klopp admits he hasn’t ruled out the option of exploring the transfer market to add another defender to his squad.

“We will see. What can I say?” Klopp said.

“I said already, we have to think about everything and in the end maybe we do nothing, but we will see.

“Of course, as you can imagine, we will have a look at all the things around us.

“Of course we have lost a left-back and today you saw two pretty young ones, James [Milner] has played it and all that stuff.

“As I said, we will see.”

One target Liverpool have been monitoring this summer is Real Betis defender Junior Firpo.

According to reports in Spain the 22-year-old left back has a £45million release clause in his contract that runs until 2023.

The Spain Under-21 international impressed last season for Betis in La Liga, but it would still be a very large fee to pay for what would be expected to be a back-up player, at least initially, for Liverpool.

Firpo scored three goals and made five assists in his 29 appearance for Betis in all competitions last season.

However, Liverpool might find that the face a competition for the young prospect as Barcelona are also reportedly monitoring the player’s situation.

When the player was recently asked about interest from other clubs, Firpo insisted he is currently happy playing his football in Seville.

“I am at Betis now, it is the team in my heart and I hope to be here for many years”, Firpo told Radio Marca Malaga, via Insidefutbol.

“The interest from other teams is something you have to live with, but I’m happy here.”
