Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explains big fear for his players over the next week

Jurgen Klopp is hoping that his Liverpool players come back from international duty without any injuries.

The German waved his players off in style on Sunday, as his side beat title rivals Manchester City 3-1 at Anfield.

Now attentions turn to the intentional break and while Klopp will enjoy some rest, he will be left sweating that his players return fit and healthy.

“If you had told me that you can have 34 points, wow!” said Klopp.

“It’s pretty much impossible, but we did it.

“But now the boys go for the last international break of the year. They have to come back healthy.

“Hopefully they all come back healthy and then we go to Crystal Palace.

“I think the last games are somewhere on the planet on Tuesday in the week that we play on Saturday against Crystal Palace.

“So they will fly back on the Wednesday, Thursday have a recovery session and Friday, Saturday ‘hello, Crystal Palace!’.

“That’s the situation so nothing happens so far, but it’s still the best situation we could have asked for so let’s hope we can carry on.”

Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson are both doubts for the clash at Selhurst Park next Saturday.

The Egyptian has travelled to meet up with his international team-mates in a protective boot.

Meanwhile Robertson was forced to withdraw from the Scotland squad due to a persistent ankle issue.

The left-back has since revealed that he’s struggled behind the scenes at Melwood in recent weeks.

“For the last two and a half weeks, I’ve not trained at all for Liverpool,” he told The Sportsman.

“I’ve trained the day before a game, could only play the last 15 minutes against Genk in the Champions League and missed the Arsenal game in the League Cup.

“It’s a niggling injury which won’t go away unless I give it time. My ankle was already injured when a tackle from Rodri on me late in the game against Manchester City on Sunday opened it up again.

“I was already a doubt for Scotland but unfortunately that made it even worse. I don’t want to pick up more injuries and ruin my season because of it. The call has been made and it has been taken out of my hands. It hurts as captain to miss out.”
