Liverpool are wasting little time in the transfer market following its grand opening on Wednesday, if reports on the continent are to be believed.
Although it remains to be seen if they will sign a replacement for departing midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, the Reds are understood to be targeting Roma ace Lorenzo Pellegrini.
Stadio Olimpico boss Jose Mourinho has hopes of building his team around the Italy international, but reports in Italy suggest Pellegrini may be on the move to Anfield this summer.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have been handed not one but two boosts in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez, who is believed to be unhappy in the Spanish capital.
Jurgen Klopp and Co. have also been urged to stump up the money for Brentford frontman Ivan Toney, who enjoyed a blistering season with the Bees to attract interest from Premier League rivals.
Here is Thursday’s Liverpool transfer round-up.
Anfield chiefs table Pellegrini offer
Liverpool have submitted a bid to sign Roma playmaker Lorenzo Pellegrini, according to reports in Italy.
Pellegrini, 24, enjoyed an excellent season with 11 goals and nine assists in all competitions for his boyhood club.
Newly-appointed Roma boss Jose Mourinho will be desparate to keep hold of the Italy international but Corriere dello Sport claims Liverpool have submitted a £25.8million bid to activate Pellegrini’s release clause.
The report claims Anfield chiefs view Pellegrini as a long-term replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum, who is on the verge of joining Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.
Liverpool’s double Saul boost
Liverpool have been handed two boosts in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid lynchpin Saul Niguez, according to reports in Spain.
Saul, 26, has made 337 appearances for the Spanish club but has been left frustrated after making just 22 starts in Ateltico’s La Liga-winning season.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo , which claims the Spain international – who has been linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks – has his heart set on leaving the Wanda Metropolitano.
In addition, Atletico are understood to be listening to offers in the region of £69million for Saul, which is far lower than his £129million release clause.

Reds urged to sign Toney
Liverpool have been urged to sign former Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney by Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony.
Toney, 25, burst onto the scene with Peterborough and joined Brentford last year, scoring an astonishing 33 goals to fire the Bees to the Premier League.
MacAnthony – a boyhood Reds fan – insists his former player would form an excellent connection with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson at Anfield.
He told The Hard Truth podcast: “I’m a Liverpool fan and I know my players. And I’d be delighted if we signed Ivan. Give me him over (Divock) Origi any day of the week.
“Liverpool cross the ball with quality for fun and imagine Ivan getting on the end of those crosses from those full-backs!”
