Liverpool and Chelsea 'eyeing Lewis Cook transfer' if Bournemouth star proves fitness

Liverpool and Chelsea are reportedly monitoring Lewis Cook with a view to a potential move.

Cook, 22, made his long-awaited return to action for Bournemouth last month after suffering a serious knee injury in December.

The former Leeds United star was in fine form before his injury, being handed an England debut by Gareth Southgate last year and signing a new deal until 2022 with the Cherries.

According to Sportsmail , he is now on the radar of both Liverpool and Chelsea – on the condition he is able to prove his fitness and recapture his best form this season.

Whilst a January move looks unlikely, he could be in line to become Jordan Henderson’s long-term replacement for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds or join Frank Lampard’s Chelsea revolution when their transfer ban is lifted.

He fits the bill for the Blues as a talented young English player, although Liverpool are also investing heavily in emerging homegrown talent.

Cook’s comeback from a serious injury came in a 3-1 win over Everton last month, whilst he appeared as a substitute against Southampton and West Ham .

He is now looking to step things up after the international break ahead of Saturday’s clash at home to Norwich, knowing a strong season could see him move to one of the Premier League’s giants.

Speaking to The Athletic about his injury blow, he said: “You come out the other side mentally so much stronger, more appreciative of football and what you had before.
