Sadio Mane scored eight minutes from time to help Liverpool complete a dramatic late comeback against West Ham at Anfield that maintained the Reds’ unbeaten run.

Jurgen Klopp’s side took the lead through Georginio Wijnaldum within the first ten minutes when the Dutchman got his head on a whipped Trent Alexander-Arnold cross.’

David Moyes’ side showed a lack of ambition against Manchester City at the Etihad last week and had been expected to have similar tactics on Merseyside but Issa Diop headed in just moments after Wijnaldum’s opener to level the match.

Any temptation that the Hammers had to retreat was not taken and they gave as good as they got until half-time against an uncharacteristically below-par Liverpool.

And it was the visitors that took the lead through Pablo Fornals after the break when the midfielder swept home a cross from Declan Rice.

It was the first time Liverpool had been behind in a Premier League match since a 2-1 win against Aston Villa and it threatened their 43-game unbeaten run.

But they had Łukasz Fabiański to thank for their equaliser when the Polish goalkeeper allowed a tame shot from Mohamed Salah to slip through his fingers.

Anfield sensed blood and, though their unbeaten record was intact, they flooded forward for a winner and found it when Mane was on hand to tap-in an Alexander-Arnold cutback.

It means Liverpool have equalled Manchester City’s 18 match winning record at home, as well as 21 matches won on the bounce.

The Reds need just 12 more points to end their long wait for the title, while West Ham remain in the relegation zone.
