LIVERPOOL 1-0 CRYSTAL PALACE

41: Bit sloppy from Joe Gomez there. His headed pass intended for Trent is weak and substitute Max Meyer collects. The German powers forward and slams one wide of the target. That’s now 11 attempts to two.

38: Trent Alexander-Arnold (21 years 261 days) is the youngest Liverpool player to score a direct free-kick at Anfield in the Premier League since Robbie Fowler did so aged 20 years and 252 days against Man Utd in December 1995. One for you anoraks out there.

35: Liverpool continue to pour it on. Crystal Palace have set up camp inside their own half and they don’t look to be leaving anytime soon. The Reds want a penalty after Gary Cahill’s arm connected with a Roberto Firmino flick. The centre-back was incredibly close and VAR says no spot-kick.

32: Danger! Another Trent special? Ayew gives away a free-kick in pretty-much the same position. It looks perfect territory for the young right-back but he allows Fabinho to take it instead. He punts it over and smiles as he gets a bit of stick from his colleagues. I suspect he won’t be taking the next one.

29: VAR?! Virgil van Dijk heads over from a corner but he’s quite obviously being held by Gary Cahill. He looks at the referee, who just ignores him.

27: Woodwork! Goodness me… inches from a second for Liverpool. The ball cannons out to skipper Jordan Henderson, who thumps a half-volley against the base of the left-hand post.

25: Drinks break. Don’t mind them too much at this temperature.

LIVERPOOL 1-0 CRYSTAL PALACE | ALEXANDER-ARNOLD

22: GOAL! That’s a beauty. That technique from Trent Alexander- Arnold was different class. The right-back wasn’t at his best against Everton on Sunday – but he’s back with a bang.

Ayew needlessly fouled Van Dijk around 20-yards from goal and Alexander-Arnold made no mistake, curling in an absolutions peach of a free-kick that flew into the top right-hand corner. Wayne Hennessey at full stretch couldn’t do a thing about it.

20: I could be wrong but it looks like Crystal Palace have dropped about 10 yards deeper since Wilfried Zaha went off. It’s only really Andros Townsend capable of breaking forward and relieving some pressure.

Corner swung in by Liverpool… it’s cleared.

19: Save! Sadio Mane finds Roberto Firmino with a back heel and the Brazilian tests Wayne Hennessey with a curling effort.

16: “It’s a shame for Crystal Palace and a shame for the game,” says Jamie Carragher. “It would have been a really interesting contest between Wilfried Zaha and Trent Alexander-Arnold. He was outstanding here last year, Zaha.”

13: That’s a shame. I think the contest needed Wilfried Zaha… for the neutral at least. The winger goes off injured to be replaced by Max Meyer.

10: After a floated ball into the box by Jordan Henderson, the ball drops for Georginio Wijnaldum. His first-time effort goes just wide. The Reds captain then skies a volley into orbit.

8: Left-back Andrew Robertson looks to ping a diagonal pass into Mohamed Salah but there’s too much on it and Wayne Hennessey collects. Hennessey famous of course for… being in the Championship PFA Team of the Year 2007–08.

5: Really entertaining start to proceedings here. Crystal Palace are dropping deep but they’ve already launched one or two decent counter attacks. Liverpool just knocking it around – waiting for the space to open.

3: Did you hear that Crystal Palace arrived at today’s game in 20 different people carriers? I don’t know why it sounds so strange. Well look, you guys all know what this game means tonight. Liverpool can’t win the title tonight but three points will seal it IF Manchester City drop points at Chelsea on Thursday night.

LIVERPOOL 0-0 CRYSTAL PALACE

1: And we’re underway at a resplendent Anfield, folks. Sorry there’s been no build-up this evening – the Manchester United match took longer than I had expected. Anyway, Liverpool are back to full strength with Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah in attack.

Very strange hearing YNWA played to an empty stadium.
