Lionel Messi: Barcelona star reveals brilliant career FIRST after win over Real Betis


Lionel Messi’s brilliant treble took his tally to the season to 39 goals in just 37 games, but the Argentine superstar revealed that he has doesn’t remember opposition fans chanting his name before Sunday.

The 31-year-old fired Barcelona 10-points clear at the top with the eventual 4-1 win over Betis.

“The truth is that I do not remember it [rival fans chanting his name],” Messi claimed after scoring the 34th La Liga hat-trick of his career.

“I am grateful for the response from the fans. Whenever we come to this stadium they treat us very well.

“Very grateful and happy for the victory, which was very important.”

Messi revealed his pleasure in scoring another three goals, but insisted that three more points in the Spanish title race were his main concern.

He added: ”Great goals, but above all the important thing was to get the three points.

“It was a very good opportunity to increase the distance, we knew the Atletico Madrid result and we could not fail.”

Betis grabbed a goal back to make the score 3-1 in the second half, but Messi’s sensational chip reinstalled Barca’s three-goal advantage.

“We played against a team that treats the ball well,” Messi continued.

“We have to adapt, there are specific moments and games and we have to be prepared for everything, good things will come.

“We have a good advantage [in La Liga], but there are many points left and we have to play as usual without giving anything away.”

Messi’s sensational hat-trick had football fans all over the world claiming that the Argentine forward is the best player in history.

However, this hat-trick statistic shows that Cristiano Ronaldo is more than a match for his fellow four-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Messi’s 34th La Liga treble came during his 444th appearance in the division.

It took Ronaldo 152 matches FEWER to reach the that tally, with the former Real Madrid man achieving the feat after just 292 fixtures.
