Linnaean: inside Battersea’s new health, beauty and lifestyle destination

Things are going on in Nine Elms.

Not only is the site of the new US Embassy and the New Covent Garden flower market; it’s the area south of the river that’s home to Battersea Power Station and its newly redeveloped surrounding area.

The massive power station project has seen hundreds of homes built in the area, and a whole raft of chi-chi restaurants, supermarkets and bars open their doors.

Which makes it less surprising perhaps that a new glitzy wellness concept store, with interiors by Martin Brudinski and facials by Dr Barbara Sturm, should have opened there at the end of September.

Located in the heart of London’s Embassy Gardens, Linnean is billed as a health, beauty and lifestyle concept store in which “curious bodies and open minds can consciously nourish adapt and grow.”

Its green and pink interiors are by Martin Brudinski, responsible for the new-look Annabels and its Insta-catnip pink sinks, and they’re unapologetically fabulous. Think floral ceilings, mirrored walls and lots of pink velvet upholstery.

On the ground floor is a full hair salon offering fabulously professional treatments using natural products and a café serving up innovative plant-based dining under head chef Fran Winberg, previously of award-winning Stem + Glory and Barrafina Soho: alongside the usual breakfast bowls, salads and soups, the café offers everything from a vegan full English, to a vegan cheeseboard paired with vegan wine. And it’s all really very good.

On the first floor the nail bar offers manis and pedis using ‘free-from’ gels and polishes that are 90 per cent natural, vegan and cruelty free. There are also three treatment rooms in which you can book for a facial by either Dr Barbara Sturm, MZ Skin, Orveda or Susanne Kaufmann. For those looking for something a little more heavy duty, they also offer a fairly comprehensive menu of non-invasive and non-surgical treatments alongside all the usual massages, eyebrow tinting and waxing.

“We set up Linnaean to help navigate modern living and promote health and happiness,” says founder Elena Tayleur. “Contemporary life is filled with negative as well as positive disruption. We go through constant changes that can herald both opportunity and overload. We help our guests to keep up, while keeping balanced.”

For healthy eaters, Instagrammers and beauty buffs living south of the river, the arrival of Linnean can only be excellent news.
