Martin Compston issued a swift takedown to an England fan who mocked Scotland’s Euro 2020 defeat.

Scotland crashed out of Group D last night following a 3-1 defeat to Croatia, with their rivals topping the group after beating Czech Republic.

However, despite the loss, the Line of Duty star had very little time for people mocking his national team’s efforts – something that followers found out the hard way.

When one made a joke over the team netting just one point in their three games, he quote tweeted their message, penning: ‘I know Ryan must be tough you were the only team that couldn’t beat us when we’re that pish.

‘That being said, by the end of it we’ll still have as many Euros winners medals as each other always that comfort. Best of luck!’

Someone else decided to pick up the mic Martin dropped, with user ‘The Quiz Addict’ suggesting: ‘Any team that celebrates a 0-0 draw like that, doesn’t deserve to be in the Euros. Two home defeats, 1 goal….bye bye.’

Having none of it, he replied: ‘Fair point Mr addict you seem to have a strong ethical compass about what teams should progress which we don’t meet.

‘But since you love questions answer me this, which team have been proclaiming it’s coming home without it coming home for quarter of a century now?’

Proving he has absolutely no hard feelings over Scotland’s early exit from the competition, Martin added this morning: ‘Been watching beer garden videos of the equaliser ever since I woke up, was worth the admission fee alone.

‘For that @ScotlandNT and for giving us all something to look forward to and get excited about for the last 6months legends to a man. On to the next one.’

While Scotland landed bottom of the group, England topped the table and are safely through to the knockout rounds, with their next game against the runners-up of Group F.

They could meet France, Germany, Portugal or Hungary in the must-win tie on June 29.
