Line of Duty creator mocks Boris Johnson after he joined Liverpool drug raids in police gear

Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio has mocked Boris Johnson on social media after the Prime Minister wore police gear to assist on drug raids in Liverpool.

The PM joined police in official gear to accompany them on early morning drug raids, but as photos surfaced online they became the subject of intense ridicule.

Johnson was blasted for pursuing a “failed” strategy of cracking down on illegal drug use.

The Tory Prime Minister said he was targeting “lifestyle” users who he claimed could have passports and driving licences removed.

And Line of Duty creator Jed admitted the PM’s “audition” for a role in his hit series would not make the cut.

He said writing: “Thank you for submitting your audition for the next series of #LineofDuty but we’re looking for a character with at least one redeeming moral principle and a performance that places even just a scintilla of doubt in the audience’s mind that he might not be totally bent.”

Fans rushed to the replies under Jed’s tweet to poke fun at the PM’s new choice of outfit – and the irony on fans was not lost, with No 10 coming under fire for allegedly having Christmas parties during lockdown last year.

One user wrote: “He’s actually auditioning for Peppa Pig.”

Another replied: “This tweet is yet another reason to love Line of Duty and its writer.”

Someone said: “As a retired police officer, I emphatically resent this failure of a man being allowed to wear any police uniform or garments.”

Johnson was in Liverpool to announce the UK Government’s 10 year plan in England and Wales, as he is “absolutely determined to fight” the “disgusting” drugs trade.
