Lindsay Lohan reveals she's returning to U.S. to reclaim 'the life I've worked so hard for'

She was once one of Hollywood’s hottest rising stars.

But a string of run-ins with the law and struggles with addiction cut short Lindsay Lohan’s movie career that began with her starring role in Disney’s 1998 remake of The Parent Trap.

Now though, Lohan, 33, is vowing to return to the U.S. to start making movies again, revealing on CNN‘s New Year’s Eve telecast from Times Square that she’s determined to reclaim ‘the life I’ve worked so hard for’.

For the past several years, Lohan has been based abroad, first in London and then in Dubai while also spending time in Greece.

On Tuesday night, she appeared via satellite from Muscat, Oman, for an appearance on the CNN show hosted by Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen.

Asked about her resolutions for 2020, she revealed that she is currently managing her sister Ali’s music career but, more importantly, she is also hoping to resurrect her own career.

‘I want to really focus on me and everything that I can do in my life and come back to America and start filming again, which I’m doing something soon in this new year,’ Lohan explained.

‘And, you know, just taking back the life I’ve worked so hard for and sharing it with my family and you guys,’ she added.

Her last released film was 2013’s The Canyons although she has been seen since then on the small screen, in a recurring role on the British sitcom Sick Note and in her own short-lived reality show Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club.

Most recently, she was one of the panel judges on Australia’s The Masked Singer.

Still, it will take some doing to come back from what Variety has called ‘one of the biggest crashes in Hollywood history’.

After making it big at the age of 12 thanks to The Parent Trap, Lohan became one of the most sought after young actresses in Hollywood, cementing her status with such big screen hits as Freaky Friday in 2003 and Mean Girls in 2004, and starring opposite Meryl Streep in 2006’s Prairie Home Companion.

In May 2007, Lohan was briefly hospitalized after a car crash in Beverly Hills that led her to being charged with DUI and possession of cocaine.

She was arrested again in July 2007 in Santa Monica, California, for driving under the influence, possession of cocaine and driving on a suspended license.

There followed a string of court dates, further arrests and charges, court-ordered rehab stints and several short stays behind bars before Lohan finally completed all her probation requirements in May 2015.

In order to escape the media attention, she decamped to London where she made her West End stage debut in September 2014 in a production of David Mamet’s Speed The Plow.

By 2016, she was spending time in Greece where she had a share in a nightclub in Athens and was briefly engaged to Russian playboy Egor Tarabasov, several years her junior.

The relationship ended after a violent altercation between the couple on a beach on the Greek island of Mykonos was photographed and published.

In May 2018, she opened her Lohan Beach House Mykonos and snagged a reality show for MTV in which she was seen managing the resort that offered guests beach umbrella and cabana reservations in a prime location.

The show debuted in January 2019 to strong ratings but brutal reviews and swiftly declining viewership put the show on shaky footing. After it was reported there would not be a second season of the show, the club subsequently closed.

For the last couple of years, Lohan has been based in Dubai.

‘There’s a certain calmness that I find there,’ she explained in an interview with W Magazine in 2018. ‘There’s no paparazzi, no cameras. That’s a big deal for me.’

‘I felt so relieved when I moved everything over from London to Dubai, and I saw everything in one place,’ she added. ‘Now I don’t have to open suitcases and live out of hotels and bags. Everything is where it should be.’

It’s not clear when Lohan plans to travel back to the United States or what her new projects will be.

It’s not her first attempt at a big screen comeback.

In 2015, she made the independent Belgian film The Shadow Within and excitedly shared images from the set.

In 2016, she posted a poster for the werewolf thriller on her Instagram but then it seems the movie was re-titled Among The Shadows and, according to IMDb, released in the U.S. and Japan in March 2019 to little fanfare.
