Linda Hamilton, 63, embarked on year-long ‘no carbs’ diet and fitness regimen for her comeback as Sarah Connor in Terminator: Dark Fate

Linda Hamilton originated one of the most iconic female roles in Hollywood when she starred with Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1984’s Terminator.

And now she’s back as Sarah Connor in Terminator: Dark Fate, a direct sequel to 1991’s Terminator: Judgment Day.

It’s been 28 years since she played Connor and Hamilton, 63, told People Wednesday she engaged in a year-long rigorous diet and training regimen to prepare for her comeback.

Hamilton explained that she needed to regain ‘functional mobility’ for the physically demanding action movie.

‘Everything we did was with movement and trying to get the fast-twitch muscle going again, so that I could spring into action and turn, and run, and do the things that were required,’ the actress told People.

When she last starred as Connor, she said ‘it was just the beginning of the fat-free diet.’

‘I ate no fat for all those months. More than a year. I would never do that again, because the brain needs fat, the body needs fat. But we didn’t know any better.’

Hamilton went on: ‘This time, I ate no carbs. See, you always have to give up something!’

The way she was: 'Obviously, the training is different as a woman of a certain age,' the 63-year-old said. 'I could work out just like I¿d had for Judgment Day (pictured) and not put on the muscle because you need hormones for that, and I don¿t got them!'
