We’ve had Old Town Road in our heads for what feels like the last 20 years, so it’s no surprise that the hit is reigning supreme in the charts.

Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ ludicrously catchy tune is officially Billboard’s longest-running song at number one, having spent 17 weeks at the top.

The history-making track has replaced Justin Bieber, Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi’s 2017 tune Despacito, which spent 16 weeks at number one.

Mariah Carey and Boys II Men’s One Sweet Day in 1995 had also spent 16 weeks in prime position.

Taking to Instagram, the rapper shared a lengthy, emoji-filled message along with a video of him and Billy Ray Cyrus in the studio recording their version of the song.

Lil Nas X took to Instagram to share a clip of him and Billy Ray Cyrus recording their version of the track, alongside a lengthy message to acknowledge its success.

‘Last year in October, as a struggling artist starting to lose faith in what I could be, I went looking for beats on YouTube,’ the 20-year-old began.

‘I remember clicking on so many generic sounding beats trying to find the right one for me. when suddenly I came across a country-trap sounding masterpiece.’

‘I immediately knew I would make something special out of it.’

The rapper went to discuss recording the track and concluded the post by thanking ‘every single person who has been apart of this journey. As I said before, it’s just the beginning!’

The video shows Lil Nas dancing as Billy Ray croons away on his guitar, with the country superstar then telling the rapper: ‘You’re a light in this world, man, and you’re gonna shine.’

There have been endless remixes of the country hip hop track, and it looks like Lil Nas X might even collaborate with country legend Dolly Parton.
