Lil Nas X is taking a break from music following one heck of a successful year.

The star took the world by storm after dropping his track Old Town Road – which stayed at the top of the charts for 19 weeks in America, as well as two weeks in the UK.

And it seems the 20-year-old, whose real name is ­Montero Lamar Hill, is now taking a well deserved rest.

Announcing the news of his hiatus on Twitter, the Panini hitmaker wrote this his three million followers: ‘It’s been a wild last 7 months and im ready to take a little time off.’

He went onto reveal that he’ll no longer be performing at TwitchCon in San Diego, California, on Saturday, and at the Sandbox Music Festival in Mesa, Arizona, on Sunday.

The star continued: ‘Sorry to everyone attending twitchcon or the sandbox music festival, i will not be there. i love u guys and will make it up to you some way [sic].’

Fans were quick to comment, and threw their support behind the singer’s decision.

‘It’s okay king we love and support you always,’ one wrote while another added: ‘No worries homie get that rest.’

Someone else said: ‘Take all the time you need just know we love and we’ll miss you.’

Other’s praised him for setting an example of putting self love first: ‘Way to set a good example for self-care. Your mental health matters!!!’

It’s been a huge year for the artist, who landed the cover of Time magazine after opening up on his sexuality.

The star previously tweeted about his journey, saying: ‘Wow man last year I was sleeping on my sisters floor, had no money, struggling to get plays on my music, suffering from daily headaches, now i’m gay. [sic]’

He went onto discuss his decision to come out when talking to the publication.

‘I know the people who listen to this the most, and they’re not accepting of homosexuality.

‘I never would have done that if I wasn’t in a way pushed by the universe.’

‘In June, I’m seeing Pride flags everywhere and seeing couples holding hands,’ he said addressing the Pride celebrations, before adding: ‘Little stuff like that.’
