Life after death: Woman now believes 'all religions wrong' after brush with death

Several people claim to have spoken to a higher power following a brush with death, and a person called Leslie believes she is one of them. Following a battle with pneumonia, Leslie was clinically dead after she stopped breathing.

Before she could be resuscitated, Leslie believes she was shown the afterlife where she spoke to Jesus telepathically.

Leslie said on the Near Death Experience Research Foundation: “I simply stopped breathing and immediately felt a tingling, electrifying sensation that started at the top of my head and travelled slowly down my entire body to my toes.

“Once that stopped, I realised I was hovering just above my body, facing the ceiling. The room was filled with a soft, glowing light.

“Then the light fixture in the ceiling lit up. I was very curious about this and wanted to float up and look at it.

“After I floated to the ceiling and looked at the light fixture, I turned around and looked at my body. I really felt no emotion about my body.

“I was actually very calm and felt extremely peaceful with all that was happening. It was at this point I sensed a being in the room with me.

“I could not see a male presence. He spoke to me through my mind and asked if I would like to stay or go. I replied to him that I was only a kid and I still wanted to stay.”

Suddenly, Leslie said she was back in her body, but now believes that all religions are wrong.

She said: “Now it’s very simple for me. There is a God and an afterlife. When I look at religion I feel they have it all wrong.

“I was taught to fear God (do what’s right or go to hell). After my experience I viewed religion as a tool of manipulation. Now I see God as pure peace and love.”

Scientists believe there is a natural explanation for visions such as Leslie’s, with Dr Sam Parnia stating that seeing people is not evidence of the afterlife, but more likely the brain just scanning itself as a survival technique.

He said: “People describe a sensation of a bright, warm, welcoming light that draws people towards it.

“They describe a sensation of experiencing their deceased relatives, almost as if they have come to welcome them.

“They often say that they didn’t want to come back in many cases, it is so comfortable and it is like a magnet that draws them that they don’t want to come back.

“A lot of people describe a sensation of separating from themselves and watching doctors and nurses working on them.”
