LIDL is recalling Alpenfest pretzel-flavoured ice cream, because it contains allergens that do not appear on the label in English.

It could also contain other nuts, peanuts and sesame.

Because the ingredients aren’t listed in English, the Food Standards Authority (FSA) says the ice cream is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to egg, milk or milk constituents, wheat or gluten, soya, sesame, hazelnuts, peanuts or other nuts.

The affected tubs are 500ml, with a best before date of 28 February 2021.

No other Lidl or Alpenfest products are known to be affected.

Lidl is recalling the product from customers, meaning you can return your ice cream in stores for a full refund.

The budget supermarket has also been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

The FSA says: “If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to egg, milk or milk constituents, wheat or gluten, or an allergy to soya, sesame, hazelnuts, peanuts or other nuts do not eat it.

“Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”

Lidl has said that it will issue refunds with or without a receipt.

If you are concerned, or need more information from Lidl, you can ring the customer services hotline on 0370 444 1234.

If you have eaten the ice cream and suffer from allergies, you should seek medical attention.
