The Sussex County Library System has announced a new service for patrons – automatic renewal. Eligible items now automatically renew on the evening they are due. This includes most books, movies, music CDs, videogames, etc. Exceptions are new DVDs and videogames, High Demand items, and anything that is on hold for another library user. Items will automatically renew up to three times in keeping with the existing SCLS renewal policy.

“Last October we modernized and streamlined our fine policy. Now we’ve updated our software to make sure all eligible items automatically renew,” stated Library Director Will Porter. “We’re focused on offering the best, most efficient service to our patrons.”

Patrons with active emails will still receive “pre-overdue” notices alerting them to upcoming due dates, and now will receive notice when items automatically renew as well. “However,” cautioned Mr. Porter “even with the automatic renewal patrons should still keep track of their due dates. The software currently available will only send notice of what was renewed, it won’t also tell you what to bring back.”

Cardholder account access is available 24 hours/day at sussexcountylibrary.org, or by calling any SCLS location.
