LIAM Payne has opened up about his desire to get into films, admitting his first audition didn’t quite go to plan.
The One Direction superstar revealed he was asked for audition for film legend Steven Spielberg last year in a bid to land a role in a film adaptation of West Side Story.
Liam said: “I’ve had a lot of [acting] lessons.
“I would love to go… I’ve had some great auditions for a couple of different things.
“The first thing I ever auditioned for was for the remake of West Side Story, which is being done by Steven Spielberg.”
West Side Story is musical about two rival New York gangs in a modern day take on William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
Cheryl’s ex continued: “On my last birthday I got a message saying ‘you need to go and meet Steven on Thursday.’
“I had to go and do an audition in front of him, which was quite wild.”
“I was in like the last five people for it, which I was quite happy with because it was a difficult”

Admitting he wasn’t too gutted about not getting the part, the Strip That Down singer added: “I was in like the last five people for it, which I was quite happy with because it was a difficult – it was a big part in the film.
“It was the first audition I had ever done and I put four tapes in and then managed to get to meet Steven Spielberg so it was pretty amazing.
“It was like all curtained off in a big warehouse type thing and he just kind of rolled in and was like ‘Liam!’ and I was like ‘this is wild.'”
Liam confirmed he was hoping to make the move from singing to acting last year while chatting to Daily Star Online.
The 25-year-old said: “I’ve been doing a lot of fashion things and different acting bits and stuff so you know, it’s been quite fun.”
Insisting he isn’t turning his back on music despite delaying his debut album indefinitely, Liam added: “I am just trying to get my song book together properly at the moment and find the right things that represent me I guess.”
