Liam Gallagher teases titles for second solo album and new single

Former Oasis star Liam Gallagher appears to have revealed the title of his second album on Twitter.

In a post shared earlier today, the rocker shared a cryptic post which read: “WHY ME? WHY NOT?”

His message quickly prompted feverish conjecture from fans, including one hopeful Twitter user who replied with: “Album name ANNOUNCED!”

Gallagher then responded with “we have a winner,” before replying in the affirmative to another fan who had asked: “Is this the name of the album?”

Earlier this week, the Britpop hero stirred more speculation when he uploaded a series of black and white composite images to Instagram.

The shots showed the star playing guitar in the studio, performing live at a festival and staring moodily into the distance.

Eagle-eyed fans noticed that the capo on his guitar featured the word ‘Shockwave’ while the phrase “It’s coming around” could be seen on his speaker in the festival photo.

A close up of a banner in another photo read “7th June,” prompting followers to assume that this could be a release date for new music.

Gallagher gave fans another clue when he shared a photo of a blue advert in Manchester city centre which paid tribute to Manchester City Football Club’s recent sporting successes.

The billboard read: “Man City treble winners. It’s coming round like a shockwave – Liam Gallagher.”

When Twitter user told Gallagher that Shockwave “sounds like a class single,” the singer replied with: “It’s gonna blow your wig off.”

He also joked that estranged brother Noel would be getting “a copy of [his] album in the post around midday,” adding: “Happy birthday posh boy.”

The Oasis star’s film As It Was is set to land in cinemas in June. It charts the beginnings of his solo career, focusing on the lead up to and the release of his debut album As You Were.

The singer has described it as a “documentary about my musical comeback. It covers the writing and recording of my first solo album, right through to playing it live for the very first time in my hometown of Manchester and around the world.”
