Lewis Hamilton: 'Means so much' F1 star celebrates British Grand Prix win on Instagram

Lewis Hamilton, 34, took to Instagram to gush about his triumph at the British Grand Prix this evening in view of his 11.9 million followers. The F1 racing driver secured a record sixth British Grand Prix victory today at Silverstone. He finished 25 seconds ahead of his Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas, 29, and is now in line to win the championship after 10 races. The five-time Formula One World Champion shared a jubilant post on the social media platform to celebrate his achievement.

Alongside a photo of himself crowd surfing with fans at the race track, he wrote: “I can’t tell you how incredible this feels guys.

“Everyone’s support and energy out there, that was crazy.

“I can’t express how grateful I am to all the fans, and to my incredible team.

“We’ve worked really hard for this. The British Grand Prix means so much to me and to have a sixth win here at Silverstone, in front of all the home fans, this moment will stay with me for the rest of my life.”

Lewis then took the opportunity to thank his supporters as he concluded: “Thanks for the positive energy everyone, we did this together.”

The sportsman’s fans flocked to the comments section of his post to share their congratulatory messages.

One wrote: “What a race loved every second! Well done Lewis too man, top drive.”

Another added: “Brilliant. Congratulations to the whole team.”

A third replied: “Way to go, Lewis! Awesome achievement!”

A fourth agreed: “In awe of your achievements Lewis; your grace and gratitude are everything!”

Elsewhere, Lewis addressed questions about his Britishness in a press conference.

The racing icon spoke out about the issue after a journalist suggested some people had queried this due to him living in Monaco and spending time in America.

Lewis appeared to be surprised by the question as he replied: “I don’t really know,” before adding he didn’t have a “good answer”.

He continued, while pointing towards his fellow drivers, “We all live in Monaco.

“It’s crazy because every driver I remember growing up migrated to Monaco and no one ever said anything about it at the time. Of course, when I did, they had something to say about it.

“But no matter how often you go abroad or elsewhere in the world you come back to the UK and see the beautiful countryside.

“You see this great history of Formula One motorsport which is really here and I see all my family who are also here and this feels like where my heart is.”
