Since Lewis Capaldi released his hit song ‘Someone You Loved’ in 2018, fans have been trying to crack the case on who the heartbreaking ballad is about.
In the moving song he sings: “This all of nothing way of loving got me sleeping with out you”, which may explain why so many fans put the sad lyrics down to a heartbreak.
And when his ex Paige Turley entered the Love Island villa a month ago, everyone was adamant she was his inspiration behind the song.
But, it seems that we were all wrong to point the finger as Lewis finally came clean about who the mystery woman was in an interview with Australian music channel, V.
He said: “The song is not about a lady like who I was in a romantic relationship with… it’s about my grandmother. Who is dead. F**k.”
Lewis continued: “I thought the album was finished, and I had this little like thing in my head like ‘oh you could try just doing one more’, and I did try and do one more for like three months and nothing was coming.”
After his grandmother passed away, he found himself being able to put the melodies together, but the words were still yet to come.
So, he decided he’d wait to put it on his second album instead.

But: “Thank f**k I never did that because my career would have been an absolute f**king tail spin. I would have flopped hard and then I went into a session with friends of mine called TMS and a guy called Romans.
“I was like ‘I’ve got this but I can’t write another heartbreak ballad,’ and as fortune has it my gran had just died. They said: ‘Have you lost anybody?’ and I says: ‘Just the ticket. My gran’s dead’.”
Lewis and Paige met in college in 2014 and spent two years dating on and off.
However, after the pair broke it off for the last time, rumours circulated that Paige allegedly cheated on him with his best friend Garry Greig – who she later ended up dating.
A friend of Lewis said he was “gutted” when they broke up.
