Lewis Capaldi sent to etiquette expert to learn to ‘walk and talk properly’

Lewis Capaldi’s huge rise to fame over the past year has taken many people by surprise – even the man himself.

Capaldi is well-known for his self-deprecating ways, never taking himself or his position at pop music’s top table too seriously (see, for example, his pair of brilliant Brit Award acceptance speeches last month).

And while we wouldn’t change a thing about Lewis, it appears that some of those closest to the singer/songwriter have been looking to refine the ways of Capaldi.

According to The Daily Record, Capaldi’s record label once sent the Glasgow-born star to see Liz Brewer, a ‘world-renowned events organiser and expert on social behaviour and etiquette’.

Brewer’s previous clients include Ivana Trump (Donald’s first wife), while she has organised glitzy parties for the likes of Sir Richard Branson and Dame Shirley Bassey.

Capaldi’s expensive etiquette lessons with Brewer took place in October 2018, just before the release of his smash hit Someone You Loved.

The three sessions were held at Brewer’s home in Chelsea, where he was instructed on how to introduce himself to people, shake hands and kiss, remember names and make small talk.

He was also taught how to sit and walk elegantly, as well as the practice entering and leaving a room and getting in and out of a car ‘correctly’.

The final lesson was on dining etiquette, including the proper use of cutlery and how to speak to people at a dining table.

Speaking to The Daily Record, Brewer recalled: ‘[Capaldi] wasn’t a big star then and didn’t have the reputation he has now. But [his record company] must have thought he had potential to spend that money.

Brewer added: ‘None of the classes included any swearing and he never swore when he was with me. He was a perfect pupil.

‘It’s a great shame he feels he has to swear now as he’s a nice guy with huge talent.

‘I think it’s an age thing and I’m sure he will grow out of it.’

Responding to the reports about the etiquette lessons, a spokesperson for Capaldi clarified: ‘This was part of a jokey video series filmed around the release of Lewis’ single Grace but never released.

‘Lewis’ team loves him exactly how he is.’
