It prompted Lewis to write: “Right enough’s enough – where the f**k is paolo nutini?”

His query was soon trending and had fans desperately trying to track Paolo down.

Answers soon came in, with The Edinburgh Bookshop posting a picture of the singer/songwriter at his hometown Paisley’s Book Festival this week.

While another fan shared a video of him wishing The Greatest Dancer’s Dancepoint good luck on the BBC show.

Replying to Lewis’s original tweet, the fan wrote: “Here he is!! @PaoloNutini wishing @DancepointGLW luck.

“They are a group of talented young dancers from @GLASGOW who are in semifinals of @BBCOne @TheGreatestDancer. Please retweet to show support for only Scottish act!”

A representative for Paolo told The Sun Online: “We have no news.”

Bookmaker Paddy Power even got in on the fun, revealing it has odds of him unveiling new music this year at 8/1.

A spokesman said: “The whereabouts of Paolo Nutini, who hasn’t released music in six years, is a mystery – and who better to solve it than fellow countryman Lewis Capaldi?

“He launched a campaign to find the missing singer on Twitter yesterday, and we think that the result of the search could mean a duet between the Scottish pair, and we think it’s even more likely that the next public sighting of Paolo is at a Celtic match.”

In December Lewis shared a pic of him and a pal posing with Paolo after one of his gigs many years ago.

The old picture was first posted in 2010 – but is understood to have been taken outside Paolo’s O2 Academy gig in Glasgow in 2009.

Sharing the throwback on his Instagram story from his friend’s account, Lewis captioned it with a row of love heart emojis.

It’s not the only time the Scottish music duo have encountered each other.

Last summer Paolo bought Lewis’s infamous Chewbaccca mask from TRNSMT festival for £10,000.

He stepped in to buy the mask after an online bidder pulled out the wacky Star Wars gear worn by Lewis at the Glasgow event.

The rocker then offered punters the chance to win the get-up as he sold it off to make money for Tiny Changes, a mental health charity launched after the death of Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison.

Paolo said: “I really wanted to find a way to help out the Tiny Changes Charity.

“Not only am I a big fan of Frightened Rabbit but I was lucky enough to share the stage with them on various occasions – most memorably for me on Hogmanay in Edinburgh 2017.

“Scott was such a great and honest songwriter who was not afraid to convey what he was going through in such a beautiful and honest way.

“When I found out what happened regarding the money raised for the kind donation from the team at DF Concerts and Lewis Capaldi, I felt like I could help.”
