Leonardo DiCaprio’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood co-star had no idea who he was and we are shook

Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the biggest actors in the world, having been in the industry for more than three decades.

But it turns out that being an Oscar winning star isn’t quite enough, as his Once Upon A Time In Hollywood co-star had absolutely no idea who he was.

Yes, seriously.

Actress Julia Butters was asked what it was like working with the 44-year-old, and admitted she wasn’t all that familiar with his work.

Have you not seen Titanic? Romeo + Juliet? Inception? The Departed not ringing any bells?

In a chat with Variety, the 12-year-old confessed: ‘I thought he was a musician.’

But she’s now realised what the rest of the world already knew – that he’s amazing.

At one point in the film, her character had to whisper in his ear, telling him ‘that was the best acting I’ve ever seen in my whole life.’

Discussing the scene, Julia said: ‘He’s such a great actor, so I wasn’t really reciting a line. It was mostly coming from me.

‘It wasn’t anything like, “Oh, my gosh. I’m going to go whisper something in Leonardo DiCaprio’s ear.” It was more like, “I’m going to recite this line and whisper in my friend’s ear.”’

But Leo isn’t the only one she was in the dark over, as the American Housewife star only knew Brad Pitt because of his ‘handsome face’.

‘I just knew [Brad Pitt] as a “handsome guy”. Like when women say, “Oh, Brad Pitt. He’s so handsome.” That’s how I kind of knew his name,’ she added.

Well, she’s not wrong…

But Julia could have been starring alongside another huge name instead, if director Quentin Tarantino had his way.

Despite the fact Leo and Brad have become BFFs while filming, Tom Cruise was approached before the Ocean’s Eleven star landed the part.

Appearing on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, he said: ‘We talked about it. He’s a great guy, and we really hit it off.

‘The reality of it was, people ask, “Was it always these two guys?” And I’m like, “Well, it’s the casting coup of the decade.” You can’t count on that.

‘They both have to respond to it, they both have to want to play the roles, they have to be available. There’s a whole lot of stuff there.

‘The reality is, I had maybe eight different pairings of actors that could go together in a realistic way in this situation. Now, the ones that I got were definitely my number ones.’

We completely agree.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood releases in UK cinemas on 15 August 2019.
