Lennie James has thrown his hat into the ring to play Marvel superhero Daredevil because, well, he has a ‘soft spot’ for the character.
The actor, 55, who is best known for starring in The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead, made a play for Daredevil, as he revealed its his favourite character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
In an interview with The Nerds of Color, Lennie said: ‘One of my favourite characters in the universe was Daredevil and I know it’s a tricky one.’
Daredevil has previously been played by Ben Affleck on the big screen in 2003 and Charlie Cox in the television series that hit Netflix.
‘I think they did a good origin story for it on the television show… I think they didn’t quite get it right in the Ben Affleck version just because they got the suit wrong fro him and just made it much too complicated,’ James said.
He added: ‘But, I did, certainly in comic form, have a real soft spot for Daredevil. I just thought he was really cool, so that character I love.’
James has already thought up a way of getting his chance to play Daredevil and called for Marvel to enlist him as an aged version of the superhero – not too dissimilar for Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine in Logan.
Logan, released in 2017, sees Wolverine coming out of retirement.
James said: ‘I’m a bit long in the tooth to be playing Daredevil now, so they’d have to do a kind of ‘Logan’ version of it, of Daredevil at the end… as a grown man not quite being able to bend his knees at the top of some skyscraper in Hell’s Kitchen.’
He joked: ‘And [Daredevil] actually using the stick not just to find his way but also to keep him standing. We might have to do that version of it, but I’ve always loved Daredevil.’

Netflix series Daredevil was cancelled after three seasons in 2018. At the time the streaming platform released a statement that read: ‘Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix.
‘We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note.’
As well as Cox in the lead role, the series also starred Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page and Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin.
