Lena Waithe and her wife Alana Mayo are calling it quits, just three months after revealing they were secretly married.
‘After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways,’ a joint statement (via E!) from their reps read.
‘We have nothing but support for one another and ask that you respect our privacy during this time,’ the statement concluded.

Waithe revealed in a 2016 interview with Refinery 29 that she was dating Mayo, a production executive who hadn’t dated a woman before Waithe.
They became engaged to be married on Thanksgiving Day 2017, but it wasn’t revealed until November 2019 that Waithe and Mayo secretly tied the knot.

‘We snuck and did it, you know. We didn’t really make any announcements or a big, you know,’ Waithe said, and as a photo of the couple flashed on the screen, Waithe added, ‘That’s my wife. She’s beautiful.’
‘We went to San Francisco. We went to the courthouse and got married right in front of Harvey Milk’s bust,’ she added on Ellen.
Harvey Milk, the legendary gay rights activist who was portrayed by Sean Penn in the biopic Milk, had his bust unveiled on top of the grand staircase in San Francisco City Hall in 2008.

Waithe is coming off her critically-acclaimed film Queen & Slim, which she co-wrote with James Frey and produced, starring Jodie Turner-Smith and Daniel Kaluuya.
She also created the hit Showtime series The Chi, which was revealed earlier this month to return for its third season on Sunday, July 5.

The show, ‘follows the adventures of a queer black girl, Hattie, and her two straight best friends, Marie and Nia, who spend most of their days talking ‘ish’ and chasing their dreams.’
