Leicester City have made an approach to sign Adam Lallana from Liverpool in the summer, with the player’s contract expiring at the end of the season.

The England international has struggled for first team appearances this season, and despite being fit, could not even make it onto the bench in the Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid on Tuesday evening in Spain.

The 31-year-old has suffered a number of serious injuries since moving to Anfield in 2014, and coupled with the rise to prominence of a number of his team-mates, he has become surplus to requirements.

The former Southampton man has started just three Premier League games this season, he managed five starts last campaign and just one in 2017/18.

He is looking for new pastures so he can play more football and Liverpool are happy to let him go as they have plenty of options in midfield and the front three, especially since the January arrival of Takumi Minamino, who has shoved Lallana further down the pecking order.

Leicester are hoping to be the ones to swoop for Lallana’s signature, reports Sky Sports, and have made their intentions clear.

Liverpool have given the play-maker permission to discuss his future with other English clubs and the Foxes have made contact with his representatives over a deal at the King Power.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of the midfielder, having signed him for Liverpool in 2014, and would like to add him to his already exciting options, which include James Maddison, Harvey Barnes, Youri Tielemans and Ayoze Perez in similar positions.

Speaking earlier this month, Rodgers said: ‘Adam is a fantastic player and one I brought into Liverpool.

‘I have been aware of his talents since he was a young player at Southampton. He has done brilliantly [at Liverpool] and I’m sure he will be weighing up his options

‘But I don’t need to speak about that now. We’ve spoken about that all through January. I don’t need to speak about the summer transfer window.

‘I would only add he is a top-class player. ‘

The 31-year-old is expected to have other offers in the summer, but if third-place Leicester can offer him Champions League football where others can’t, they may prove to be the most appealing destination.
