Leicester ‘make approach’ to Adam Lallana over signing on free transfer this summer as Rodgers joins Arsenal in hunt

LEICESTER CITY have made an approach to sign Adam Lallana on a free transfer this summer, according to reports.

The Liverpool midfielder, 31, is out of contract this summer and does not look as though he will be offered an extension.

And according to Sky Sports, Brendan Rodgers is keen to be reunited with the England international.

Rodgers signed Lallana at Liverpool in 2014 for £25million from Southampton and the pair worked together until the Northern Irishman’s sacking in October 2015.

But after being a regular in the first team in his first three seasons at Anfield, injuries and selection have seen his game time fall in recent years.

His solo goal and assist since the beginning of the 2017/18 season – both coming this term – mean he is on course to be let go.

Rodgers was asked about the possibility of linking up with Lallana again last week when the reports first circulated that Leicester were interested.

The Foxes boss said: “Adam’s a fantastic player. Someone I brought into Liverpool and I’ve been aware of his talent since he was a young player at Southampton.

“He’s done brilliantly there and I’m sure he’ll be weighing up his options but for us we don’t need to speak about that now.

“We’ve spoken about transfers all January and we don’t need to talk about summer ones now but he’s a top class player.”

London trio Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham are also in the hunt for Lallana, with Leicester the most likely to be able to offer Champions League football next season.

He won the competition with the Reds last term before adding the Uefa Super Cup and Club World Cup to his trophy cabinet.

The star is able to open negotiations and even sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs overseas now.

Lallana made 34 appearances for England, netting all three of his goals in the autumn of 2016 as he was named the Three Lions’ player of the year.
