Ardent Leicester fan Roy Fellows was given the shock of his life as James Maddison and BT Sport dropped in to surprise him with a video call this weekend and he simply couldn’t let the midfielder escape without getting a definitive answer on his future.

Maddison, 23, has earned a reputation as one of the finest No.10s in Premier League football over the past two seasons and his outstanding performances for the Foxes have caught the attention of Manchester United, the club he has supported since he was a little boy.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified Maddison as one of his top targets along with the likes of Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish ahead of the summer transfer window, with the Red Devils desperate to strengthen their attacking options.

However, Leicester have responded by slapping a £100million price tag on Maddison which has reportedly made United think twice about their pursuit of the Englishman. He is now expected to commit to a bumper new contract at the King Power Stadium worth £100,000-a-week.

‘One of the best decisions I’ve made, coming here. I love it.’ said during his chat with Roy for BT Sport’s #TeamTalk series, aimed at cheering up supporters in need of a boost during the coronavirus lockdown.

Asked if he will be staying at the club, Maddison replied: ‘Of course I am!’

Leicester were having an outstanding season when the COVID-19 crisis brought English football to a halt and Maddison discussed his current frustrations, with his Champions League hopes and ambitions on the line.

‘Obviously this situation is not ideal because we were doing so well and are in the Champions League spaces at the minute,’ Maddison added.

‘That’s why I just want to get that season finished, try and secure one of them spaces.

‘Because Champions League football is something I’ve always wanted. i watch every game, I don’t miss a game.

‘It’s a competition I’d love to be involved in.’

Maddison’s answer prompted Roy to chime in with another cheeky attempt to convince the midfielder to stay put.

‘You stay with us, mate, and you’ll be there (in the Champions League),’ he joked.

‘Don’t be going up that bloody M6!’

Earlier this week, Kasper Schmeichel claimed Maddison ‘can be whatever he wants to be’ in football but revealed his concerns about the weight of expectations on his team-mates shoulders.

‘He can be whatever he wants to be,’ the Leicester goalkeeper told That Peter Crouch Podcast.

‘Sometimes I worry for him – being English, playing for England. It brings a different level of expectation and scrutiny.

‘His ability is ridiculous. He’s got everything in his locker – the sky’s the limit for him.’
