Manchester United and Tottenham’s interest in Islam Slimani may come to nothing as Leicester do not want to let the striker move to a Premier League rival.

The 31-year-old striker is on loan at Monaco from the Foxes and has attracted a lot of interest during the transfer window, with Aston Villa and Inter Milan also linked with a move for him.

The Algeria international has scored seven goals in 13 Ligue 1 games since arriving at Monaco, but has been out of the first team since the departure of Leonardo Jardim as manager in December.

United and Spurs are both in desperate need of a new striker as they are struggling with injuries to Marcus Rashford and Harry Kane respectively, and are considering Slimani as an option.

However, Get French Football News reports that there are numerous problems with getting a deal done, chiefly for United and Spurs being that Leicester do not want to sell to direct rivals for Champions League places in the Premier League.

Slimani has not made a Premier League appearance for Leicester since April 2018, but he is still under contract with the club until the summer of 2021 after signing a five-year deal in 2016.

There are further complications for any club trying to bring in the striker before the transfer deadline, with Monaco asking for a £2.1m fee to cancel their loan agreement early.

Slimani is on a season-long loan at the Ligue 1 side and they want to be compensated for it to be cut shot.

There are also reports of numerous intermediaries making any deal much more complicated than it should be and some interested clubs have already stepped away from a move as a result.

The 31-year-old is represented by Federico Pastorello, but a transfer is being hampered by other parties getting involved.
