Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa wanted by La Liga giants – but there's a catch

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa could take over as the new manager of La Liga club Real Betis at the end of the season. But, Bielsa is happy to stay at Elland Road for another year, if the Whites seal promotion to the Premier League this season.

Bielsa’s contract at Leeds is set to expire this summer.

He signed a one-year deal with the club at the start of last season, but agreed to extend his stay by an extra season after failing to gain promotion last year.

But, it was made clear before the season started that if Leeds aren’t playing Premier League football next year, Bielsa’s time at Elland Road would be coming to an end.

Real Betis are hoping to attract Bielsa to the club this summer, according to Eldesmarque.

Betis will be hoping that Leeds remain in the Championship for another season, so that they can try and poach Bielsa.

The La Liga club has already contacted the manager’s representatives, to gauge his interest in the move.

Bielsa is the ideal, high-profile candidate that Real Betis are looking for.

They’re expected to get rid of their current boss, Rubi, at the end of the season.

Leeds are currently second in the Championship table; five points clear of the play-off places.

They’re massively odds-on to finally end their 16-year absence from the Premier League this season.

The Whites head to Hull City on Saturday (12.30pm), with a chance to extend their gap over third-placed Fulham to eight points; albeit temporarily.

Hull are currently winless in 10 matches, in all competitions, and the Tigers haven’t gone 11 matches without a win in over a decade.
