LEEDS 1-1 DERBY

45: Leeds are 45-minutes from the play-off final with Aston Villa. Derby need a goal to force extra time. Couldn’t be more dramatic here at Elland Road.

Twitter round-up

Dave: It’s written in the stars that it will be John Terry vs Frank Lampard in the final.

David: Total stupidity from Kiko Casilla and Cooper. Not exactly Premier League quality – should we get there. How many more times will we see this amateur workmanship?!

Mike: Patrick Bamford is an absolute embarrassment, imagine coming back from a two-game ban for diving to then dive again. Don’t care if the ref saw it, ban him. For longer.

LEEDS 1-1 DERBY

HT: Derby largely beaten for most of that half but Kiko Casilla’s error has given Frank Lampard’s side real hope.

47: Honestly… you would think a goalkeeper would try to settle things down with a few sensible decisions after making a huge error… but NOT Kiko! He’s just flown off his line again and nearly laid it on a plate for Lawrence. Erratic and comical goalkeeper.

LEEDS 1-1 DERBY | MARRIOTT

45: Hello! Substitute Jack Marriott scores with literally his first touch of the match!

It’s a diabolical mix-up between Kiko Casilla and Cooper as the pair collide just outside the penalty area. Marriott says thank you very much before tucking it away.

44: Woodwork! Derby are the width of the post away from making this interesting. It’s a great header from Bennett that loops over everyone and clips off the post. Lawrence had started celebrating. Awkward.

Frank Lampard makes a change with Jack Marriott on for Holmes. Didn’t look like an injury…

42: Another update, another nearly moment from the hosts – who are in complete control. Dallas drifts to the far post but skews his volley over the crossbar.

Meanwhile, Derby are still awaiting their first effort on target in the entire tie…

39: Close! Bamford is inches away from toe-poking Harrison’s low, drilled cross beyond Roos. Ayling collects the rebound but there’s a wall of blue shirts to contend with.

36: Ironic cheer as Holmes punts a forward pass straight out of play. Just nothing clicking in attack from Derby this evening. It’s going to take something quite astonishing for Frank Lampard to meet John Terry’s Aston Villa at Wembley folks.

33: A shot from range from Stuart Dallas wins Leeds a corner. Derby clear on this occasion but it just keeps coming back. Derby pinned inside their own half.

30: Booked! This is getting silly now. Patrick Bamford is penalised for DIVING! Can you possibly believe that?! Quite theatrical but not on the same level as the Villa deception.

28: Woodwork! Klich doesn’t mess around from 18-yards, does he?? The Leeds star thwacks one that takes a wicked deflection off Keogh and rattles off the crossbar. Inches.

25: Another booking? Five now walking a tightrope as Phillips goes in the boo for flying through Wilson on the left channel. Totally unnecessary.

LEEDS 1-0 DERBY | DALLAS

23: We have lift-off! Elland Road is pumping thanks to Stuart Dallas, who has given Leeds a 2-0 aggregate lead!

A wonderful in-swinging free-kick cannons off the far post and Dallas is quickest to react by converting from point-blank range.

22: So that’s four bookings inside 20 minutes. It doesn’t take Mystic Meg (is that still an acceptable reference?!) to predict there is a red card coming tonight.

20: Ah… and now the bookings arrive.

Stupid from both sides with Hernandez and Malone shown yellows for needless schoolboy stuff. A swinging arm followed by a head pressed into the Derby midfielder’s chest.

18: Harrison’s a bit naughty when standing on Bogle’s toes over on the right touchline. Referee Anthony Taylor gives him a quick warning but keeps his cards in his pocket.

He also keeps them in his pocket when Mount and Dallas have a coming together. The Derby midfielder was late and out of control.

15: The hosts now attempting to take the sting out of Derby by knocking the ball around at the back. Klich eventually decides to send it forward and finds Ayling with a diagonal cross but the defender volleys over.

13: Leeds really haven’t got to grips with Derby yet. The visitors win another corner courtesy of Bogle down the right channel but the delivery is far too deep to cause any issues.

11: Derby have Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett playing together up front, with a diamond in midfield. It looks to be causing Leeds quite a few problems. Lampard springing a surprise at Elland Road.

8: It’s Mount and it’s straight into the Leeds wall. Poor.

7: Derby should be level. Lawrence causes mayhem when trying to collected a long ball forward. Casilla charges out of his penalty area and prods it to Wilson, who skies it first time.

Looks like referee Anthony Taylor is bringing it back for a Derby free-kick. Wilson or Mount?

5: Booked! Fikayo Tomori is shown the first yellow of the evening when clipping the heels of Patrick Bamford. The striker would have been clean through.

3: Derby’s first task will be to silence this crowd – who are making one hell of a noise. Can barely hear myself think!

While we’re discussing cliches… already a few full-blooded challenges flying in from both sides. Referee Anthony Taylor will do well to keep a lid on this.

LEEDS 0-0 DERBY

1: Outrageous atmosphere inside Elland Road – but you already knew that… Those freebie scarves are being held aloft with Leeds fans singing their hearts out.

Y’all ready? Good. We’re underway folks. Who will face Aston Villa at Wembley…

Five-minute warning

19:40: Everyone keeps mentioning the fact Leeds beat Derby in all three fixtures this season. That must impact psychologically on Derby. BUT – I guess this is the one that matters.

Bielsa – not a simple game

19:35: Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa: “It’s two games, but we could say it’s just one game and we’ve just played the first half,” the Argentine said.

“The difference is only one goal and the idea is to increase the difference and prevent the opponent from reducing it.

“Usually you don’t make comments at half-time and usually you work to build a superiority in the time that you have to play.

“The first game was not simple for us, and we’re sure that the next game won’t be easy either.”

Twitter round-up

Ben: Unpopular opinion. I actually want Leeds to win tonight and I’d quite like to see them in the Premier League next season. I think Bielsa is one hell of a character!

Billy: Played with Lampard when we were kids, and still to this day, I have never seen a player work so hard to get to where he wanted to be. He’d be doing laps of the pitch after games and all sorts, he deserves everything he gets because he’s worked his nuts off for it.

Barry: Genuine question – what is Derby’s plan if they don’t go up and all their loan players go back to their parent clubs? Tough job for Lampard next season.

Stupid boy

19:25: Leeds captain Liam Cooper is confident team-mate Patrick Bamford can make amends for his “stupid” suspension.

He has served a two-game ban for deceiving the referee in the recent home draw against Aston Villa and, having shown remorse, he now has the chance of swift redemption.

“There’s no worries about Pat being fit and we all know what he can do,” said Cooper. “He’s got this unbelievable confidence.

“It’s one of those things in the heat of the moment. Sometimes you make stupid decisions and Pat will admit that.”

IT issues…

19:20: Sorry about that folks. I had a wee problem with my computer and was forced to ring the IT Department – which some will know is usually an absolute nightmare.

And this was no exception. Took me five minutes to connect and then the problem fixed itself as I was describing it. Joyous.

Team News – Derby

19:15: Frank Lampard looks like he will match Leeds’ formation tonight.

He makes one change from the defeat last week with Mason Bennett starting ahead of David Nugent. Just the three goals for Bennett this season…

Team News – Leeds

19:10: Right then – two changes for Leeds tonight.

Jamie Shackleton starts ahead of the injured Adam Forshaw. The headline news probably belongs to Patrick Bamford, who returns from suspension for the injured Kemar Roofe.

Pontus Jansson starts on the bench meaning Gaetano Berardi continues at centre-back in the normal 4-1-4-1 formation.

Twitter round-up

Tiffany: I’ve never wanted Frank Lampard’s Derby to win a football game more in all my life!

Adam: Derby 1-0 down away from home and they decide not to play a striker. Frank Lampard must be ready for his Holiday.

Michael: Wouldn’t it be great to see Marcelo Bielsa sending Frank Lampard home crying tonight and then John Terry on the 27th, Wishful thinking!

Frenzy

19:00: Stephen Warnock believes the key action could occur during the early exchanges tonight.

“I don’t expect Derby to come flying out of the traps because I don’t think they need to score an early goal. They just need to contain Leeds for as long as they can and be as concentrated as they can be,” Warnock said.

“I expect Leeds to come flying out because they know that one goal will possibly kill the game completely. They have the home advantage and at a packed Elland Road that’s what you would expect from them.

“But when Leeds do come flying out Derby have got the quality up front and speed to counter-attack. It is going to be an interesting first 45 minutes.”

Freebies!

18:55: Love a good freebie. Need supporters have a little present waiting for them inside Elland Road this evening.

Thousands of scarves have been placed on each seat to… to build the atmosphere?… I’m not quite sure why a scarf would help but enjoy them anyway!

Twitter round-up

Stephen: Would love to see the Rams beat Leeds tonight and go to Wembley. Have to have a sensible head though, and realise the points difference reflects the obvious gulf in class. Cant see past 3-0 Leeds but hope Derby can make a game of it!

Sean: I will enjoy watching the Leeds v Derby game today without the anxiety. Yesterday was crazy stressful.

Scott: Nailed on red card in this game tonight.

But who Scott?! Whooooo?

Subs: Peacock-Farrell, Jansson, Brown, Clarke, Struijk, Gotts, Bogusz.

Team news klaxon…

18:43: Just a few minutes until we see the starting XI’s folks. Standby…

The Dean…

18:41: Speaking of play-offs – did you all see Referee Mike Dean going absolutely NUTS celebrating Tranmere’s play-off win over Forest Green? Late contender for highlight of the 2018/2019 season.

Rewind…

18:40: For those living under rocks are had something better to do with their lives on Saturday – this is how the first leg went down.

Kemar Roofe hit a second-half winner to give Leeds a slender 1-0 advantage over Derby.

Roofe coolly slotted home after 55 minutes for his fourth goal against the Rams this season.

Leeds were left breathing a huge sigh of relief when referee Craig Pawson overturned a decision to give the home side a penalty with 12 minutes to go, after Jayden Bogle and Jack Harrison collided in the box.

Something a certain Mr Lampard was not too impressed with.

Evening

18:35: Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of Leeds vs Derby.

I was going to open with something about Spygate but quickly decided that was funny for about 12 seconds…

But who knows – if I run out of content later perhaps I’ll mention it up again. Exciting, eh?

Moving swiftly on, tonight’s Championship play-off semi-final at Elland Road sees Frank Lampard’s Derby look to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg if they are to keep alive their promotion dream.

However, NONE of the previous 17 teams to lose the first leg of a second-tier play-off semi-final at home have progressed to the final.

Yesterday’s clash at The Hawthorns was no different. What do they say? Records are made to be broken…

LEEDS vs DERBY – TEAM NEWS

Leeds have been dealt an injury blow as Kemar Roofe has been ruled out of the return leg of their Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-final against Derby.

Roofe’s 15th goal of the season secured Leeds a 1-0 win on Saturday at Pride Park in the first leg, but he will play no part at Elland Road on Wednesday due to a calf strain.

Patrick Bamford is expected to start in Roofe’s absence after serving a two-game ban, while Pontus Jansson remains doubtful and Adam Forshaw, Tyler Roberts, Barry Douglas and Gjanni Alioski are definitely out.

Derby are hoping that Martyn Waghorn will be fit. The 13-goal striker missed the first leg with an Achilles injury but he has been training since.

Left-back Ashley Cole could also be involved after he resumed training following an absence with a groin injury.
