LeBron James paid an emotional tribute to Kobe Bryant following the death of the LA Lakers legend on Sunday.

The 41-year-old was killed alongside his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others in a helicopter crash in California.

James overtook Bryant’s record of 33,643 points to move up to third on the NBA all-time scoring list during the LA Lakers’ defeat to the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday evening.

After the game in Philadelphia, Bryant called James to congratulate him on his achievement but it was to be the last time the pair spoke before Sunday’s tragedy.

Following the news of Bryant’s death, James was seen in tears as he stepped off the Lakers’ team plane after returning from Philadelphia.

And James has now paid homage to his friend and mentor.

‘I’m not ready but here I go,’ James posted on Instagram.

‘Man I sitting here trying to write something for this post but every time I try I begin crying again just thinking about you, niece Gigi and the friendship/bond/brotherhood we had!

‘Didn’t think for one bit in a million years that would be the last conversation we’d have. WTF!! I’m heartbroken and devastated my brother!!

‘Man I love you big bro.
