LCS Summer Split Sees 25% Viewership Increase Year-Over-Year Ahead of Finals Weekend

The League of Legends Championship Series 2020 season will conclude this weekend, determining the seeding for North America’s representatives at the World Championship later this year. Ahead of the finals weekend, Riot Games announced that the LCS has seen an average minute audience of 182K during the Summer Split regular season and playoffs, up 25% from Summer 2019.

Additionally, last weekend’s contest between popular veteran organizations Cloud9 and Team SoloMid exceeded the viewership for last year’s Summer Finals match, reaching a peak of 520 viewers and an AMA of 467K.

Earlier this summer, the league’s European counterpart, the LEC, reported an 81% increase in AMA for the first half of its Summer Split compared to Summer 2019, with a peak viewership of 479.8K. Figures for the second half of the split were not available at the time of writing.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, both leagues have played their Summer Splits and playoffs remotely for the first time in their history. The World Championship, taking place in Shanghai, China, will be the only major in-person League of Legends competition to take place this year.
