Laurence Fox has said he’s been dropped by his agent, following controversial comments he has made regarding racism.

The actor, 42, has faced backlash for comments previously made on Question Time earlier this year, where he claims he finds it racist for someone to say he has ‘white privilege’.

During his appearance on the show, Laurence clashed with an audience member who said Meghan Markle has been subjected to racism and he responded by saying that ‘playing the race card was getting boring’.

His comments resulted in over 200 Ofcom complaints and Laurence came under fire again in October, when he urged fans to boycott Sainsburys for supporting Black History Month, as he accused the supermarket of ‘segregation’ towards other races.

He received widespread criticism on Twitter and Sainsburys ‘proudly’ doubled down on their support for Black History Month within its stores.

Now, Laurence has revealed that he has ‘been let go’ by his acting agent, but insisted he hasn’t ever said or done anything that could be deemed racist.

The White Lines star tweeted: ‘I want to thank my acting agent who let me go on the phone just now for reaffirming exactly why I am doing what I’m doing.

‘Still waiting for a single example of anything I’ve ever said or done that could ever be deemed racist. We will reclaim freedom, fairness and common sense.’

It comes after Laurence set up his own political party called the Reclaim Party that he claims has already had £5million in donations and hopes to reform publicly-funded institutions – like the BBC – to ‘promote an open space’ for freedom of speech.

Laurence announced his political plans on Twitter as he told fans: ‘Over many years it has become clear that our politicians have lost touch with the people they represent and govern.’

‘Our country is now in desperate need of a new political movement which promises to make our future a shared endeavour, not a divisive one. This is now my endeavour.’

Laurence, undeterred by the backlash he has faced in recent months, also hit out at attempts to ‘cancel’ him on social media.

Slamming ‘cancel culture’, he told talkRADIO there was ‘quite a concerted drive to make me be quiet’.

The star added: ‘You can’t just shut everybody up, there’s an emotional and an intellectual fragility to people who won’t tolerate dissenting voices.’

Laurence said he finds cancel culture, where people withdraw support for public figures over something they have said or done that is deemed offensive, to be ‘very dangerous’.

‘Cancel culture creates an even more myopic monoculture and who wants that,’ he argued. ‘The woke religion lacks a lot of rationality.’

His comments came after he faced criticism for refusing to take the knee in solidarity with Black Lives Matter and instead declaring ‘all lives matter’ – a move that saw him publicly fall out with his co-star Rebecca Front.
