Laura Tobin, 37, took to Twitter to defend her opinions on climate change after veteran weather forecaster Bill Giles, 79, said the environmental issue was “on our side” and would help the economy in the UK. He told the Radio Times: “We have 10 years or so to grasp the nettle and make sure that, due to climate change, we tap into the trend of warmer, more predictable summers and make the leisure and holiday industries the backbone of our post-Brexit economy.” The Good Morning Britain meteorologist weighed in on the controversial debate in view of her 114,000 followers this morning. She wrote: “Thoughts on Bill Giles saying, ‘Climate change is on our side’.
“I feel it’s irresponsible to be positive about #ClimateChange as people may not want to tackle it.
“Bill said we’d have ‘more predictable summers’, but we’d most likely to have more extreme/severe weather & many negatives.”
Fans took to the comments section of Laura’s post to share their thoughts.
One agreed with the ITV Weather presenter, writing: “Very irresponsible! It’s comments like Bill’s that have the potential to undo some of the great work already being done to combat climate change! Climate change is not a good thing!”
Another added: “I did find it strange when someone like him makes a statement which is clearly wrong.”
However, one user took issue with Laura’s argument and accused her of “looking stupid”.
They replied: “You just made yourself look really stupid thinking you know more than Bill Giles, I wanted to cringe for you.”
Laura was quick to hit back at the criticism, as she pointed out her expertise as a meteorologist.
She responded: “I’ve been a qualified meteorologist for 15 years and collaborated with the Met Office Scientists & forecasters to gather all the information.
“Plus recent climate reports from the World Meteorological Organisation & many countries support this. It’s the most up to date data!”
Many Twitter users sided with Laura, with one fan writing back: “Good on you. You have the right to an opinion on @GMB and made your point very well.”

The ITV favourite posted a gallery of snaps from her big day in an elegant white wedding dress.
She captioned the photos: “Time flies-9 years ago today I got Married. Happy Anniversary to my wonderful husband. It’s so nice to reminisce about the day.
“It was amazing, so much love & laughter with all our favourite people, including my beautiful bridesmaids. I LOVED my Princess dress & cascading bouquet of orchids.”
