IT may be the most wonderful time of the year, but if you haven’t got your Christmas list nailed down, and can’t face the shopping scrum, here’s what you need to know.

Christmas may be coming in fast but it’s not too late to beat last orders.

Here are the big dates you need to know about if you want to make sure your Christmas present orders arrive before the big day.

Last minute shopping may be necessary if you’re really busy or have a house full of children who can’t decide on what they want Father Christmas to bring them this year, but leaving it to the last minute is not for the faint-hearted.

Placing orders at the last minute is risky, as stock may run out, and deliveries get lost or delayed.

There’s nothing worse than paying top price for an item that arrives after it’s been knocked down in the sales.

There is plenty of time if you are planning to shipping in Christmas dinner, with many supermarkets taking orders now. 

Deliveries are free for orders over £150, with orders of less than this sum costing £3.95.

Next day deliveries cost £4.95 or £9.95 for business-day orders fulfilled by either 10.30am or noon.

Amazon

 For those subscribing to Amazon Premium, orders on next day delivery will be free of charge

Orders of £20 or more qualify for free deliveries charge on certain items, which are flagged up when you purchase.

Those subscribing to Amazon Premium can receive all orders the next day free of charge.

Some retailers also offer free delivery.

Prices for other orders vary depending on the value and size of items being dispatched.

Argos

It will cost you £3.95 for a same-day Fast track delivery before 6pm

Since Argos teamed up with Sainsbury’s it’s been possible to take advantage of all those parking spaces to pick up gifts.

But if deliveries are the order of the day, customers are able to order up to noon on Christmas Eve to receive £3.95 same-day Fast Track delivery before 6pm, with delivery slots filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

ASOS

Orders are free for standard deliveries of more than £30, or £4 for lower cost items.

Next day deliveries cost £5.95, with goods arriving between 7am and 10am. Orders must be placed by 11am.

Boohoo

Savvy shoppers can save a few valuable pounds by ordering their Christmas presents early through Boohoo.

Its Super Saver Delivery service costs £2.99 if orders are placed by 12 December.

The next day delivery deadline is Sunday 22 December and costs £5.99. Boohoo Premier customers get free deliveries.

Standard deliveries for small items are free if you are happy to wait three to five working days, while next day arrivals cost from £4 to £10 depending on whether you specify morning or evening delivery.

Large items, such as 40 inch TVs, cost more to deliver. All day any day deliveries cost from £5.

Choose a slot on weekdays or Sundays and it will set you back from £20. Saturday slots cost from £25.

Debenhams

The last date for home deliveries is 18 December, with purchases of more than £50 being free.

Cheaper purchases cost £3.50.

Those leaving it to the last minute, which is Sunday 22 December at Debenhams, can take advantage of a next-day delivery service costing £3.99.

Ernest Jones

Gold, silver and all that jazz can cost you nothing to have ferried to your door if you spend more than £100.

For lower standard orders it’s £3, or £5 if you opt for next day orders on bling costing less than £500.

HM Samuel

Standard deliveries from HM Samuel cost £2.95 and take three to five working days to arrive.

This means ordering before 2pm on Friday 20 December if you want your goodies to arrive in time for the big day.

Express deliveries cater for those who like to leave it a little closer to the wire, being available up to 7pm on Monday 23 December for £4.95.

Harvey Nichols

Orders from Harvey Nichols can be placed as late as 3pm on Wednesday 20 December.

The deadline for hampers is two days earlier on Monday 18 December, with deliveries arriving four days later.

House of Fraser

It can take three to seven working days for orders to arrive from House of Fraser, at a cost of £4.99 for the standard delivery.

Those wanting next day deliveries can pay £6.99 for a speedier service on orders booked by 5pm on Monday to Friday.

John Lewis

Next day deliveries on all John Lewis goods cost £6.95, if purchases are ordered by 8pm on Sunday 22 December.

It costs £10.95 if the goods must arrive by 10.30am that day or £9.95 for evening deliveries.

Large items, such as furniture may cost more.

Marks & Spencer

 

 You can get your Christmas food for standard delivery up to 6pm on December 18 for £3.50 on purchases over £50

Christmas food can be bought for standard delivery up to 6pm on Wednesday 18 December for £3.50 on purchases of £50 or more.

Last knockings is 6pm on Monday 23 December, for next day deliveries and costs £3.99.

New Look

The last date to buy from New Look is 23 December, on orders made by 8pm. It’s three days earlier if you don’t need the next day service.

Shoppers from Northern Ireland must place orders by noon on 23 December for the last delivery service.

Office

Standard deliveries to UK and Northern Ireland addresses need to be made by 4pm on Wednesday 18 December.

Although for those who like to leave their present buying a little later, it’s possible to take advantage of the £5 next day service, which is available until 4pm on Monday 23 December.

Topshop

If clothes are still to be crossed off your Christmas shopping list Topshop could be a safe port of call.

Last orders for standard deliveries is 20 December and costs £3, or nothing for Topshop Premier customers.

Orders can be make up to 3pm on 23 December and cost £6 for express delivery to your door.

Again, this service is free for Topshop Premier customers.

Waterstones

Anyone who fancies curling up with a book can order themselves a present from Waterstones by 2pm on Wednesday 18 December, with free delivery, or 2pm on Friday 20 December, for the price of a first class stamp on orders up to £20.

An express delivery service is also available for those wanting to gift a good read.

This courier service costs £7.95 and is available up to 23 December.
