Last of Us 2 pre-review: Great news for fans after PS4 release date reveal

Last of Us 2 release date has been confirmed, with PS4 fans only a few months away from playing the highly anticipated PlayStation exclusive.

On Tuesday during a State of Play broadcast a brand new Last of Us 2 trailer dropped which revealed the release date for TLOU 2.

The Last of Us Part 2 will have a release date of February 21 2020 on PS4.

The new Last of Us 2 trailer which announced the release date also gave more details about the backdrop of the plot.

It looks like Ellie is out for revenge after something tragic happens to someone close to her once again.

The new Last of Us 2 trailer showed locations from the game’s world, jaw-dropping gameplay footage and (**spoiler alert**) Joel for the first time.

In the aftermath of this Last of Us 2 release date announcement fans were delivered more great news about the major PS4 exclusive.

The day that the Last of Us 2 trailer dropped was also significant as journalists on the same day got some major hands-on time with TLOU 2.

During a media event games journalists got three hours hands-on time with Last of Us 2 as they played two levels from the game.

And it has been confirmed that the embargo for journalists’ impressions of the Last of Us 2 is fast approaching.

In a post online Last of Us 2 director Neil Druckmann revealed Last of Us 2 previews will be going live from 4pm UK time on Thursday September 26.

Druckmann wrote: “Journalists from all over the world are going hands-on with two new levels at a press event in Los Angeles–playing roughly three hours of the game!

“Thankfully, you won’t have to wait long to see and hear more about it.

“Their impressions and videos will be going live this Thursday, 26th September around 4pm BST / 5pm CEST, or, as many fans of The Last of Us know it: Outbreak Day.”

Druckmann also spoke about the process of making Last of Us 2, with the director saying there was “immense pressure” in following up the original.

He said: “We began working on this game over five years ago. It’s hard to describe the immense pressure of following up the first game.

“We know how much you love this world and its characters — especially Ellie and Joel. Believe me, we’re fans as well. We love them.

“Which is why we spent years crafting a game that we feel will do them justice, telling a nuanced story that deals with the core question: how far would you go to exact justice against the people that hurt the ones you love?

“It’s a highly emotional story with complex themes that befit the world of The Last of Us.

“What we realised pretty early on is that we were putting together Naughty Dog’s most ambitious and longest game in our 35 year history.

“To tell this kind of story the game needed to be massive.”

It was also revealed that the Last of Us 2 will come in multiple editions when it is launched next February.

Fans will be able to choose from the Last of Us 2 Standard Edition, Special Edition, Digital Deluxe Edition, Collector’s Edition, and Ellie Edition.

The latter comes with a replica of Ellie’s backpack, her bracelet and a 12 inch statue of the iconic character.
