Lady Leshurr has been forced to defend her ‘integrity’ after social media trolls criticised her new Olay advert.

The Queen’s Speech rapper has landed a no doubt lucrative endorsement deal with esteemed skincare brand Olay, making her the first black British rapper to front the company.

In the advert, Lady Leshurr is seen smearing the moisturiser on her face while larking around her house and rapping along to the new song she’s created specifically for the campaign.

And while Lady Leshurr’s latest venture has been supported by her loyal fans, others have found time to criticise the rapper for endorsing the brand.

Hitting back at the critics, the entertainer wrote in an Instagram post: ‘Seen Certain People Saying My Olay Ad Ain’t Me & I’ve Lost My Integrity.

‘I’m Always Myself In Everything I Do & TRUST Me If I Never Cared About My Integrity I Would Be Sooo Much Further In My Career And Wealthier..Real Ones Know!! It’s Always People That Haven’t Followed My Journey With The Most To Say!! [sic].’

Lady Leshurr’s advert has surprised fans who have pointed out the lack of diversity in Olay’s ad campaigns in the UK – in the US, they’ve had the likes of Keke Palmer as an ambassador.

‘I just saw an Olay advert starring Lady Leshurr! I’m just in shock because I don’t think I’ve ever seen a dark skin black woman lead an Olay advert before. And they let her narrate and too??!!!’ one reacted on Twitter.

Another weighed in: ‘Lady Leshurr on the OLAY advert black & from brum we love to see it.’

‘Did i just see lady leshurr on an olay advert? what a queen,’ another praised.

Lady Leshurr filmed another advert for the company in which she states: ‘Girl, it doesn’t matter what colour your skin is. We all need SPF in the summer.’

Announcing her new ambassador role, she told her Instagram followers last month: ‘I’m The New Face For @Olay’s Cream ? Can’t Really Believe It Considering It’s A Brand I Couldn’t Afford About 2 Decades Ago When It Was Called Oil Of Ulay (If You Know You Know).

‘But My Babysitter Would Have The Products & I Loved It. To Now Being In An Advert For It. Most Might Think This Is Just Another Campaign Etc But This Means More Than You Know. Black British Female Rapper From Birmingham On An OLAY Advert?! We Love To See Itttttt [sic].’

Earlier this month, the 30-year-old rapper released her new EP, Quaranqueen, which features songs about the struggles of living in lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic.
