Labour brilliantly exposed in stunning outburst during BBC QT clash – 'You got smashed!'

Mr Lewis was quizzed about why he gave Jeremy Corbyn such high marks when asked by a journalist what he rates the Labour leader out of ten. He was also asked about why Labour suffered such a grave defeat – but Mr Lewis was unable to come up with a satisfactory answer, according to Ms McElvoy.

Ms McElvoy blasted the Labour leader candidate on his response.

She said: “While Clive is more open about what went wrong, I still think that his analysis is fundamentally flawed.

“I would have never expected to see the Conservative Party winning seats where I used to Iive in the north east.

“Historically, it’s always been a dry run for Conservatives.

“My goodness. How many seats in parts of the country who have never voted Tory in my living memory would you have to lose before you could say it was nought out of ten, because that is the real position that the Labour Party is in.

“The things you hold dear – inequality, poverty alleviation, I respect you very much for that.

“But the trouble is, the right-of-centre has learned from its mistakes, but you haven’t learned at your end of the spectrum – and that’s why you got smashed.

“You will need to think very hard and fast about how you come back from it.”

The Labour Party suffered one of the worst defeats since the 1930s.

Many feel the blame lies in the fact that the party went too far left.

As a result, Corbyn will be stepping down as Labour leader, but will not leave his position until the position has been filled.

Mr Lewis is in the running to be the next Labour leader.

Sir Keir Starmer is the favourite to win, having secured nine nominations from the parliamentary party, plus endorsement from the UK’s biggest union, Unison.

Running second, is Rebecca Long-Bailey – who has a backing of 26 MPs so far.

Jess Phillips has 22 MPs who have thrown their support around her, the same number as Lisa Nandy.
