Kylian Mbappe and Gianluigi Buffon slammed as L'Equipe pick apart PSG flops

Paris Saint-Germain’s latest Champions League collapse was picked apart by L’Equipe on Thursday morning.

The French champions surrendered a 2-0 first-leg lead in Paris as Manchester United fought back to secure their place in the quarter-finals.

Marcus Rashford won it for United with a late penalty as PSG’s wait for Champions League glory continued.

L’Equipe focus on their exit at the last-16 stage for a third season in a row, having been knocked out by Real Madrid a year ago and famously by Barcelona in 2017.

PSG had a 4-0 first-leg lead against Barca but lost the second leg 6-1 to exit the competition.

But according to the French newspaper, the defeat to United was ‘even worse’.

The front page continues by stating “the unthinkable happened again” as PSG threw away another aggregate lead.

L’Equipe’s player ratings also didn’t make for pretty reading for Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

Gianluigi Buffon, who was at fault for United’s second goal, was given a mark of two as was hapless defender Thilo Kehrer.

There were a number of threes given out too, to Kylian Mbappe, Julian Draxler, Dani Alves and Angel Di Maria.

United’s players come out of the ratings a lot better off although there were still some harsh scores, in particular for Andrea Pereira and Scott McTominay.

Romelu Lukaku leads the way with an eight while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gets a nine for masterminding the comeback.

The victory secures United’s place in the last eight and all but confirms Solskjaer will land the job on a permanent basis.

His focus will now be on this weekend’s trip to face Arsenal at the Emirates in a crunch clash in the race for the top four.
