Kristen Bell says her five-year-old daughter is still in diapers: ‘Every kid is different’

Kristen Bell has revealed her five-year-old daughter is still wearing diapers while opening up about the struggles of being a parent.

This week, the actress discussed her and husband Dax Shepard’s attempts at potty-training their daughter Delta during a new episode of Momsplaining with Kristen Bell, where she was joined by Maya Rudolph and Casey Wilson.

“My oldest daughter, at 21 months, we merely suggested that she use the toilet in the other room and [she] never wore another diaper beyond that,” Bell said, adding: “We were lying in bed giggling about this, my husband and I, like: ‘Why does everyone make a big deal out of this potty training? It’s so easy. Just tell the kid to use the toilet.’

“Currently, my youngest is five and ½, still in diapers,” Bell continued.

Bell’s admission came while the trio were discussing how parenting varies “because every kid is so different”.

“It’s real relative, isn’t it?” Rudolph added.

On social media, The Good Place actress’s comments caused a divide, with some applauding Bell for being transparent, while others criticised the mum of two for sharing the detail about her daughter with the world.

“Quit the mom-shaming. Her child won’t be showing up to college still in diapers. She’ll be ready when she’s ready and it’s none of your business,” one person wrote.

Another person tweeted: “Why would @KristenBell relate this humiliating fact about her child, along with identifying details like her name? Delta may not know about this yet, but she will: in the middle of a pandemic during her delicate formative years, her mom told the world she was still in diapers.”

“There are moments when I find Kristen (and Dax) hilarious; then there are moments she’s cringy. This is one of those times. This crosses the line to awkward, oversharing and feeling so sad for her five year old that her mom felt she had to share that publicly,” someone else wrote.
