Krishnan Guru-Murthy hosted Channel 4 News from home after going into self-isolation amid the coronavirus outbreak.

He was joined by co-host Matt Frei who was in the Channel 4 studios while Krishnan video called in from home.

Krishnan opened the show by telling viewers: ‘Good evening from my own home tonight as Channel 4 extends our own social distancing measures.’

As well as hosting as normal, despite not being in the studio, Krishnan also interviewed two experts about the government’s plans regarding the budget as both appeared via video link from their homes.

Krishnan isn’t the first Channel 4 News anchor to have self-isolated, as Jon Snow recently completed 14 days in isolation after returning from Iran.

Jon had told viewers: ‘I’m in self-isolation as a result of having been to Iran for the past four or five days and I’m therefore not really supposed to congregate with crowds or go anywhere where there may be people.

‘So that means I’m sitting at home. For two weeks. I woke up this morning feeling rather tired, but that was from the trip. But we weren’t actually anywhere near where the main virus outbreak has occurred.’

The One Show’s Matt Baker has also been self-isolating after a member of his family developed a cough, as well as Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid whose son had a persistent cough, leading her to stay home.

Matt had appeared on Thursday’s episode to give viewers an update on his condition, admitting he was starting to feel under the weather and worried he may have caught coronavirus.

He said: ‘Certainly I’m feeling pretty tired, and I’ve got this dry cough and I don’t have a fever as such.

‘I have been going out today and trying to get quite a bit of fresh air, I mean we’re lucky here because we’ve got enough space in order to isolate in.’

He added: ‘But I’m just trying to remain focused but yeah, I am a bit anxious about whether or not I’ve got it, to be fair.’
