Kris Humphries claims Kim Kardashian marriage was 'brutal but 100% real'

Being married to reality star Kim Kardashian was ‘brutal’ but ‘100 per cent real’, according to Kris Humphries who divorced the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star in 2011, after just 72 days of marriage.

In a lengthy essay for The Player’s Tribune , the 34-year-old former NBA star has opened up about his time with Kim, and has looked to dispel rumours about the validity of their romance.

Some eight years after the couple split, there is still a feeling that their relationship was ‘fake’ but Kris has said it was far from this and was actually ‘brutal’ as they had to live in the public eye.

Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian in happier times

Kris and Kim had a whirlwind romance, getting engaged after just seven months and, after the typically lavish Kardashian wedding, they were splitting up and setting off onto the path of a bitter divorce.

Kris has claimed that his relationship with Kim eventually ruined his chances of ‘being recognised as a basketball player’, with crowds turning on him due to his reality TV status and not due to his prowess on the court.

Speaking about his time being in the middle of Kardashian family life, Kris admitted: “I should have known what I was getting into. I was definitely naive about how much my life was going to change.”

He then went on to address the naysayers who slammed his relationship with Kim and called it out for not being ‘real’.

Kris continued: “The one thing that really bothers me is whenever people say my marriage was fake. There’s definitely a lot about that world that is not entirely real.

“But our actual relationship was 100 per cent real. When it was clear that it wasn’t working… what can I say? It sucked.”

Kris and Kim in 2011

If he thought that being married to Kim was difficult, Kris found that divorcing her was a whole different ball game.

The break-up played out in the public eye and Kris said that this put a huge strain on his mental health.

Kris revealed: “It’s never easy to go through the embarrassment of something like that, with your friends, with your family… but when it plays out so publicly, in front of the world, it’s a whole other level. It was brutal.”

Kim has continued to live her life in front of the lens

After Kris looked to get his marriage to Kim annulled in December 2011, it took until June 2013 before the divorce was finalised, after a bitter battle with the Kardashian family.

This deeply affected Kris as he claimed that the public battle transcended into his basketball career, with him claiming that crowds were booing him based upon what was happening with Kim.

The situation led he to not “want to be Kris Humphries” especially after he realised that people were thinking Kris was “that f***ing guy from TV,”

Despite lives moving on, Kris is still dogged by his time with Kim and there is no small regret on his part that he ever got involved with the Kardashians in the first place.
